Window of the Pharaoh

"To be chosen is to be contained, the frame around the king is also a cage."
- Nat Berhe

A fragmented, richly layered head fills the center of a dark slate ground, its features built from broken planes of acid yellow, deep teal, forest green, royal blue, and red, crowned with a pharaonic headdress implied by yellow strokes across the top. Pink lines frame the composition like a window or a court, while vertical drips of dark paint streak downward as if the figure is slowly dissolving into the canvas. The work confronts the paradox of ancient power and modern identity, the throne as both elevation and imprisonment.
