A child in a red jacket steadies a shotgun against a dove-gray ground, while demonic bat-masked figures gather in the upper left and hollow-eyed ghoulish men in suits dissolve into the fog below. The child is rendered with a halo-like aureole, placing them in the position of saint and executioner simultaneously. Berhe tears into the mythology of innocence and violence in America, refusing to look away from the moment when childhood confronts a world that was never made safe for it.
