A battlefield of pure pigment, thick, gestural impasto strokes in red, yellow ochre, teal, black, white, and green collide across every inch of this dense 16" x 20" canvas. No figures, no horizon, no refuge: only the conflict of color itself, waged at the level of matter. The paint is built up in physical ridges and valleys, giving the surface a topographical quality. This is Berhe at his most visceral, the act of painting as combat, and the result as the only peace on offer.
