A skull-faced Napoleonic general sits astride a spectral white horse against an electric cobalt blue field, his military regalia rendered in impasto gold and red while darkness seeps up from below like oil. A cross is marked on the horse's flank; a skull rests at the base. The painting interrogates the mythology of conquest, the uniform of power worn by death itself, asking what we celebrate when we celebrate greatness.
